Today I will be talking about a mighty man of valour. He was ruddy, energetic and very intelligent. Everybody loved him for his well character. In a simple way to say, he is blessed and favored. But his brothers hated him.
His father had a wife who gave birth to six boys. The man did not planned to have up to six children but tradition of seeking for a female child end him up with six boys.
The six boys were spoiled because of the wealth of their father. Most time the father wanted to discipline them but the mother would interrupted and defended them, so their father will changed his mind and leave them.
As we all may know that sometime a male child somehow loves his mother and seems closer to her than the father. You can perceive how the family would look like. The father and the mother have different ideology about raising children.
The father was keen about disciplined life but the mother believes the only way to show how much she loves and cares is to defend her child even when he is doing the wrong thing. Some women also would say “My children are my husband!”
We should also remember that, the woman or wife determines the atmosphere of a family according to the book of wisdom Proverbs 14:1, “Every wise woman builds her house, but the foolish one tears it down with her own hands.”
After their last born which was also a male child, the woman concluded that whither male or female child, they are all from God. And as much as no man can manufacture babies, hence children are the blessings of God therefore she stop child bearing and also stopped continuing her conjugate responsibility with her husband. Her belief was that sex in marriage is for the child bearing. She did not see sex in marriage as obligation between husband and wife to foster their relationship and maintain good healthy living.
The man was emotionally pressed even with her wealth. The home front was nothing to write about. The woman refused to pay attention to him anymore. She believed she had child-proved her marriage.
She gave more attention to her boys and she render her husband to a lonely zone.
She forgot life moves in a circle. One day those children she focuses all her attention upon and left her husband in emotional cold weather would leave them and it will remain her and her husband. Both of them would one day come back to where they started their marital journey.
Look for solace, the man met another woman, a harlot. He had the carnal knowledge of her and the woman became pregnant. In those days, abortion was not an option to unwanted pregnancy. The harlot gave birth to a child a male Child.
Gilead was bold enough to accept the child and bring him home with other six boys.
They were all growing together as a family but those six boys hated their step brother because he was a well behaved child. He was hard working and he was favored by men and God.
It was not too long. Their parents died. And those six boys conspired against Jephthah and sent him out of their fathers’ house said “Thou shalt not inherit in our father’s house; for thou art the son of a strange woman.” Jdg 11:2
The members of their extended family got involved to settle the matter amicably but what would a man do against six men. All their efforts hit a hard rock. However, people loved Jephthah, they advised him to flee for his dear life. Jephthah left his father’s house because his brothers hated him and casted him out. He seeks for another abode far away from the haters.
Jephthah was the son of Gilead. The city of Gilead was named after him because of his good work and excellent leadership prowess. Gilead was an Israelite.
The people of Gilead were known for their outstanding healthcare and healing capacity. The Bible talked about the “Balm in Gilead” “Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?”
Jephthah followed the good path of his father. He was a good leader therefore young men followed him to establish a new village.
Everyone that followed Jephthah became mighty. Jephthah became a great warrior and a good leader. He did not follow after the material wealth of his father but after the good legacies of his father. He was popular, successful and influencer.
Not too long, the enemy arose against the city of Israelite. The Ammon wage against Israel and there was nobody among the brothers of Jephthah could to face the Army of Ammom. They were strong enemy. They subdued many cities and took tribute from them.
Then the elder of the Gilead gathered themselves and went to meet Jephthah for intervention and they made him leader and commander in chief of Gilead where he was rejected and ejected by his blood brothers. Wherever you have been rejected you will be celebrated in Jesus Name.
People may not believe in you until you prove yourself as a worthy person. They may cast you out but don’t cast yourself out. Jephthah did not cast himself out rather he focus on his purpose.
I pray where you are rejected you will be celebrated in Jesus Name.
Those that hate you will come to beg for your help in Jesus name.
The grace of God will make you greater than your haters in Jesus Name.
